Rise Up Rochester, Incorporated is directed by a committed core of volunteers who meet each Thursday at 6:00pm to plan, organize and strategize how to take back our streets and provide support to crime victims and their families. Ms. Wanda Ridgeway, Executive Director
Wanda Ridgeway is the Executive Director of Rise Up Rochester, Incorporated (RUR), a nonprofit that works to empower the community to establish and maintain a nonprofit culture and provide support to crime victims and their families. Known as a fierce advocate for Rochester, Wanda’s determination to address Rochester’s homicide problem started when her nephew, Herschal Scriven, was murdered on March 14, 2006.
A graduate of East High School and current student at Monroe Community College, Wanda has been a child care center owner, a secured treatment aide for the State of New York, and a Rehab Certified Nursing Assistant at St. Ann’s Nursing Home, a field she worked in for over 24 years. At present, Wanda is also an Intervention Teacher’s Assistant in the Rochester City School District.
The mother of three and grandmother of six, Wanda is the Top Guns Mc & SC Social Club President and an active member of Baber African Methodist Episcopal Church. She is a recipient of President Barack Obama’s Lifetime Achievement Award and received a Certificate of Special Mayoral Recognition from Mayor Lovely Warren of the City of Rochester, New York.
Ms. Sabrina LaMarr, Assistant Director
Mother. Community Activist. Entrepreneur. These words appropriately describe Ms. Sabrina LaMarr. Born and raised in Rochester, New York, Sabrina attended School #30, #33, #39, #12, Jefferson, East, and John Lofton High School. She furthered her education at Rochester Business Institute where she received an associate degree and SUNY Empire State College where she studied Business Management.
Sabrina is the founder of PUSH Publishing Company which provides authors and others with an imaginative voice with interior formatting, unlimited images, custom front and back covers, ISBN and comprehensive distribution for print and eBooks. In addition to her role as CEO of PUSH Publishing Company, Sabrina is an Accounts Receivable Specialist for Davis Ulmer Sprinkler Company and worked in finance for the Catholic Family Center for eight years.
Committed to the city that birthed and nurtured her, Sabrina’s handprint can be found in multiple nonprofits, movements and events that make a difference in the City of Rochester. She is an event organizer for the Northwest Falcons; Assistant Director of Rise Up Rochester, Inc. (RUR), a volunteer for Roc the Peace, participant in numerous political campaigns and member of Baber African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Sabrina is the mother of two children: Tashmere, a 2010 graduate of Edison Tech, and Jaiona who attends Pinnacle School #35.
